I've been mulling the concept of short-selling over for a few months. I think there may be a place for betting that a company's stock price will fall, but I am starting to think don't think it is not the stock market. If you like a stock you buy it, if you own a stock you think is overvalued or about to fall you sell it. If you want to place a proactive bet against a company do it in a betting parlor, I'm sure someone will take your money. The difference is that your bet is less likely to directly influence the stock price, as too often happens with real stocks when short-selling becomes a self-fulfilling act, driving down a stock price precipitously.
My mind could change, but I have more and more sympathy for this position.
