Whatever rational data and trends may be behind Igor Panarin's prediction that the United States will disintegrate into smaller states, the conclusions he comes to are absurd:
- A republic of states anchored by Texas will become part of Mexico or fall under Mexican influence. Fall under Mexican influence? Texas?
- The California Republic will be part of China or a Chinese satellite state.
- Alaska will become part of Russia. Sarah Palin has a gun pointed at you from her front porch.
There is more, but his map and scenarios show a total lack of understanding of history, socio-political facts on the ground, and are quite simply untethered from reality. The sad thing is that the type of line-drawing from a distance that Panarin, referred to as an "academic" in the media, is not too different from what the Allied powers did after World War II in the Middle East and Africa. Had the individuals who drew up the lines that created those states had a ture understanding of the religous, political, and historical issues on the ground the world would be a much, much better place now.
